Three-Part ‘Understanding our Water’ Educational Series Delivers Community Engagement

The Santa Margarita Groundwater Agency is hosting a three-part educational series beginning in January to engage and inform all people who rely on the water supply from the Santa Margarita Groundwater Basin.

Community turnout was strong for parts one and two with approximately 100 attending each, which took place on Saturday mornings at the Felton Community Hall. Part 1 was called “Land Use and Water: How Much Does Growth Matter?” and featured keynote remarks from former California Natural Resources Secretary John Laird. Part 2 was called "Water Budgets: How Do We Balance All Needs?" and featured keynote remarks by Assemblymember Mark Stone. At both events, attendees listened to presentations from local water professionals and participated in small-group break sessions, concluding with a Q&A session with leaders from local water agencies including San Lorenzo Valley Water District, Scotts Valley Water District, the County of Santa Cruz and the City of Santa Cruz.

Part 3 in the series will take place Saturday, March 9. Learn more at https://smgwa.org/meetings/understanding-our-water-educational-series/.
